My Muse Appearing

Well my muse peeked her head around the corner for a while this week. I created a necklace. I have been waiting to use the clay beads I made before Christmas. I used sculpty clay to create beads that resembled turquoise. To make them look richer I used real gold leaf. It has been a while since I posted on my CopperCandyJules.etsy.com shop so I used copper beads and findings with the clay beads. I tried to make a photo collage but alas I just don't know :^)

I have been staying close to home this week as my sweet husband is recovering from surgery. I have been kinda at loose ends. I have tried several things to keep the mind active and the hands busy.

My new daughter-in-love has been making Tilda Dolls and a Moose Family. I thought it would be fun to use the task to bond with her over searching for the patterns and fabric. So we went shopping several times, since she does not drive. I made my first doll right after Christmas, but was not too pleased with her so I made another which I am pleased with. I have had a really good time dressing both dolls. I have made two coats with matching hats. The first doll got three out fits. The second doll only has two I thought it would be fun to make a handbag for the first doll as I already had a little yellow one foe the first doll. Today I gave my first doll to the little girl that lives across the street from us.The skirt has tiny little 3/8 inch pleats. and she has on her bloomers

I haven’t made any jewelry since before Christmas. I did not get chosen for the 5th BSBP. I went to the bead table yesterday but my muse did not show up. Maybe tomorrow, I have some new clay beads I am eager to work (play) with when my muse decides to show-up

A Rare Experience

A Rare Experience

My husband is getting to come home from the hospital later today after 21 days, Yea

I went to the memorial service of a dear friend this pasted Saturday. The service was so inspirational to me. My friend was 99 years one month and 5 days young. And although he was legally blind and could not walk he had a permanent catheter and no telling what else. He never complained. He came to my class to paint with me every Friday morning. He did this until just three weeks before he passed. He was a Doctor Psychiatry, a trained concert pianist, and a wonderful artist. He did mono prints. He was still entering art shows and still winning as of this past September. The music chosen for his service were the ones listed below. Still in the Hospital

We are still in the hospital with a viral infection in the intestinal infection and recovering from surgery on the small intestine. We have been here since January 3rd. So I don't know much else for the week.

Well it did not work this time. My sweet husband has had irritable bowel for some time. He did all the home remedy but on Tuesday last he had me take him to the emergency. They x-rayed him and determined that he had a bowel blockage. They promptly put a tube down his nose and there it has remained for a week. After three days the Doctors thought it wise to do surgery. After viewing with a lap scope and found nothing to cause a blockage, so they proceed into the small intestine and there found three pre cancer nod-gels. We count this a s a praise because a colonoscopy would not have found them.
We are so proud of our children they have been so attentive. The first night after the surgery our daughter took the first shift to sit up with her dad and our son and his new bride took the second shift from 2:00 until I came on at 6:00 . Our daughter stayed until late Sunday evening..

IT'S A NEW YEAR 2012

Happy New Year I did not make a resolution as I tend to fail. I will just be the best that I can be in any situation. How is that?
I am taking a few days off. Well maybe not. I have been cleaning flower beds. We have had a heck of a time finding to someone to hire to come and do home repairs and yard work. So with this unseasonable warm weather I have been doing some light flower bed clearing.
I have a lovely new daughter-in-love. Along with getting settled she has been letting take her shopping. One of the things she wants is to do is make a Tilda doll, which I had never heard of. The Tilda doll is very popular in Europe but apparently not so in the USA. We have had a hard time finding a pattern for the doll. Alas we did find one. I spent the New Year Holiday making a doll. The doll is very tall and thin. I will not call my doll a Tilda because I did not have instructions so I just flew by the seat of my pants. Her hair looks like my little sister’s when she was just a wee kidlet so I will call her Sherrill

On another note I am eager to sign-up for the next Bead Soup Bead Party. There will only be 200 as opposed to the nearly 400 in the previous BSBP. Lori Anderson will somehow choose random names. So I hope I will be chosen.

THE TWELVE DAYS OF CHRISTMAS

There is one Christmas Carol that has always baffled me. What in the world do leaping lords, French hens, swimming swans, and especially the partridge that won't come out of the pear tree have to do with Christmas?
This week, I found out.
From 1558 until 1829, Roman Catholics in England were not permitted to practice their faith openly. Someone during that era wrote this carol as a catechism song for young Catholics. It has two levels of meaning: the surface meaning plus a hidden meaning known only to members of their church. Each element in the carol has a code word for a religious reality which the children could remember.

The six geese a-laying stood for the six days of creation.

Seven swans a-swimming represented the sevenfold gifts of the Holy Spirit--Prophesy, Serving, Teaching, Exhortation, Contribution, Leadership, and Mercy.

Nine ladies dancing were the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit—
Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness,
Gentleness, and Self Control.

The ten lords a-leaping were the ten commandments.

The eleven pipers piping stood for the eleven faithful disciples.

The twelve drummers drumming symbolized the twelve points of belief in the

One of my students had the class over to her house for a Pot-Luck Christmas party last Friday. It was lovely. She had every room decorated and there was so much delicious food. A good time of fellowship was had by all. We do have the best times I am so proud of my class. They are my sanity.

I am so delighted you dropped by to see just what I have been up to since Erin sent me my color palette. First I must say I love, love these colors, but I love all things COLOR. I made two pieces the first one I used crystals. I wasn’t too pleased with it because I could not the right size pink focal crystal

The second creation is of glass red violet turquoise glass I could not find blue violet so I made polymer clay and added glur on crystals of blue violet. I finished it off with a gold tone leaf toggle.

It's Our son got married in Saint Petersburg Russia and we were able to watch it in real time. They were half way around the workd I am so amazed at the technicology of today. Not everyday a lady my age has a new daughter.

MEANDERINGS OF THE MIND

There are times when you may feel alone and disconnected. I know we all have times like that. I have found that when it comes in like a black cloud, that if I take an hour of quiet and solitude and just count my blessings, and put on an attitude of gratitude, I feel better. I know in my heart that GOD wants the very best for me. Have faith that HE is looking out for my best in all circumstances. And know that all is all. Google images
When I was younger I hated to do the ironing, That was when we sprinkled down the cloths one day and spent the whole next day ironing them. (Thank GOD for polyester) I would find myself going back in my mind to the days of my youth when things were not as they should have been. I would get so depressed. I found a solution, I would call a friend and say “Come over and talk to me while I do the ironing”. We had the best times giggling.
We are nearing the time set aside by our leaders to just take time to be grateful for our blessings. If you have the freedom to worship, Thank a soldier, If you have the freedom to demonstrate. Thank a soldier, if you have the freedom to travel unhindered, Thank a soldier. Thank a soldier for all the freedoms we enjoy today

HAPPY RETIREMENT

We had wonderful week-end. The weather was perfect for travel. My husband and I took a little road trip to East Texas to visit my brother and his wife.

They retired from far west Texas

to far east Texas. On 260 acres they call “The Land” My brother has found a little natural spring on “The Land”. Well that gave my husband the queue to build a ram pump that pumps water up stream
He and my brother acted like little 6 year olds were so excited to go play in the water. It took all week-end to work out the kinks. It was pumping 180 gallons an hour when we left.
Mean while my sister –in-love and I made clay beads (which I failed to get home with). We went into town and purchased towels for her to monogram for my son, who is getting married the 19th. And just general girl things.

We went for a really long drive trying to find the Extension Club President’s house way out in the country.

My sister-in-love did some club work and needed to get it to the Presidents house before she went out of town. I know this post is so boring. I will close without further a due.

Time Flies

I have just finished participating in the third annual Craft Fair for the senior activity center this week-end. It was much better attended this year than last year. Each year the Craft Fair gets better. I don’t think there was very much sales revenue however this year. Maybe next year.

I have been wondering just how we would get thru October, we had so many commitments, but we made it.And my husband had his big 8-O birthday. Now here it is November. Our son is getting married the 19th , in St. Petersburg, Russia, and then it will be Thanksgiving and then Christmas and then 2012. How does time go so fleetingly fast? I am just wondering what ever happened to January.

We have been having such wonderful fall weather. Makes you want to sing and dance. My husband has piped music to our patio . I danced all by myself for about three hours on our patio last week. google image

Virtual Craft Show Coming Soon

I will be participating in the VIRTUAL CRAFT SHOW sponsored by
Lori Anderson Coming Soon 70 artist Starting on November 26th thru December 3rd Be Sure to drop by, visit often, and do your Christmas Shopping.
I will also be in a craft show at the senior’s activity center where I teach all media painting on Saturday October 29th. I have spent the whole week getting everything tweaked and priced ready to sell.

Our Celebration of Friendships was full of surprises. The friend we were going to cheer-up because we thought she was depressed, died of cancer while everyone was here. We found out one and half weeks before the event that she had cancer of the lungs, and then she was gone. I took her a lovely quilt on a Tuesday said it was a prayer quilt. When the girls arrived on Thursday we went to see her and she had totally changed and was gone on Saturday morning. I was so grateful that I had planned a Bar-B-Q for Saturday afternoon, because that gave the husband and his 6 son and their wives and grandsons a place to be and eat and be loved on by us.

CELEBRATION of FRIENDSHIPS

It was in the fall of 1961 that we all met. We were all young couples with lots of children and no money, but we were happy. We girls were all stay at home moms back then. So we use to entertain ourselves by doing each other’s hair and nails, drinking coffee and playing endless games of canasta. We have supported each other in lots of life’s crisis. Crisis, like very sick children, husbands in Vietnam and heart attacks and little everyday dramas. Our children have all grown up considering the 61st families as aunts, uncles and cousins. Our own families were non-existent. We were from the far reaches of the USA. North and South, We just became a family. My daughter would say a Chosen Family. Well, we are celebrating our 50 years of friendship this week. One family is coming from central Texas, one from west Texas, another from Chattanooga, Tennessee, two from the DFW metro-plex. The last time we were all here for our bi-yearly reunions we took photos of 4 generations. At one time we were 5 generations strong. We take turns gathering in each other’s area. We celebrated 4th.5th.and 7,th wedding anniversaries. We have now celebrated all of our 50th wedding anniversaries. So it seems right that we should celebrate 50 years of friendship. We have lost two of our guys

I am going to be in a craft fair in two weeks. I have been making Christmas earrings and bracelets.

OCTOBER MORNINGS

I am having my morning coffee on our patio soaking up the morning in luxury of a lovely morning. It’s been such a hot summer we could not enjoy our patio for such a long time. It is almost October. I am listening to the marching band practicing on the football field less than a ¼ of a mile from us. Google images

I am reminiscing of the Octobers of the distant past. The past when my daughter would be out on the football field marching. Our school band would be dreaming of a 1in regional competition.
Bless her heart she would march for hours piping on a tenor saxophone. It’s a big bugger.
I have finished the quilt that I am making for my friend who was burned out in the central Texas forest fire. It is made of a heavily embroidered taffeta on the front and suede on the back. The quilt does not photograph well (with my photography skills) but It is beautiful. I had to tack it for it is too heavy to quilt. I should not have put the stuffing in it :^) My daughter would say batting mama.
I have finally gotten the entire give a-ways ready to mail. They will go out today except one I forgot how to get into the database so I lack one address. Wheew.

Reveal Day

Lori Anderson of Pretty Things organized for all of us, this huge blog-hop Party and for that I am truly thankful. My partner has been Alice Craddick from Michigan. Her blog is Alice's Beads and Baubles.

This is what I sent Alice . . .

Alice’s soup mix really gave me a challenge, because I almost never use gunmetal and rarely use brown. She hinted at the complementary color scheme: Purple, red orange and orange. I only had to add red violet beads and plum color aluminum wire to finish out the scheme. Here's the chunky dangle-y bracelet in the full light of day.

Lori said that it was “really cool to mix metals” so I used silver pins for the beads and plum wire for free form designs.

Simple Little Surprise

I was so surprised the other day to go to the post and lucky me! Nana Nana-Na-Na! There was this little package addressed to me: From Lori Anderson. I eagerly opened there to find beautiful little glass beads and an awesome ceramic pendant from Winchell Clayworks. She sent me little blue glass flowers, pewter flowers, spacers and toggle, and transparent lavender 6mm beads; I am as pleased as punch and eager to design something wonderful.

We weren’t sure my soup was going to arrive as it seemed that my soup was lost. So Lori sent me this soup. My partner’s soup did however arrive. I said it must have taken the scenic route. :^)

I cannot wait for the great reveal. It’s only 10 days away. I can tell you that I have been challenged. Lori wanted us to be challenged and stretched, and to think outside the box. I think I covered all the bases.

NOTHING MUCH HERE
Here it is the end of summer as we know it. Labor Day always signals the end of summer. When I was a girl we never had to back to school until after the Labor Day holiday. Here in Texas it is really still too hot in my view. But know one ask me, so our little tykes started back to school week ago. The temperature was 106 degrees That blows me away .

I said to my husband this week “Honey do you realize that we have spent the whole summer in the catacombs ". We have kept the blinds and doors closed to keep out the heat. I am ready for the heat wave to break. Our weather man David Finfrok tells us that it has been the hottest summer ever recorded here in north Texas. ENOUGH But I can say we don’t have to shovel snow :>) we only have winter 30 minutes at a time. :>)

I am having a time finding the findings I need to finish my Bead Soup. Gun metal is not so widely stocked in our craft stores. Lori did say on the forum that it is really cool to mix our metals. I did go to Etsy and find bead caps. and to another Etsy for small caps I may have to mix my metals. Stay tuned.

Soup Just Arrived

Just a quick post to say I did finally receive the much anticipated Bead Soup from my partner Alice Craddick. It must have taken the scenic route here so it was a bit late. But all is well that ends well. She sent me a long string of brown tone Agate, a glass focal with a quarter daisy etched on it ans some orange glass tear drops, and lavender glass beads, lovely fall colors.

I just love what Lori had done to create such a wonderful community of creative souls. 363 of us I am so eager for the reveal on September 18

O’happy me I made the Bead Soup Blog Party Treasury Sandi Volpe created called "Wicked". My daugher sent me the jpeg;

“Wicked” how did they know? ;^) I try so hard to be good. But it is hard for me. I just seem to be in trouble all the time smiles. I haven’t received my soup as yet. You can imagine how I am anticipating it. This is what I sent to Alice Craddick. I hope she likes it.

I have been busy this week making bracelets and experimenting with wire. My daughter bought me a wire wrap jig so I could make uniform designs I still have more practice to do.I am short on purple beads but I created one bracelet I call Purpe-less Purple Bracelet :>)
Then I made a lovely pink dangle I put in some of my wire designs. Then I added silver hearts. I really like this one this one.
I had just a little bit aluminum chain and a little bit of aluminum wire, so I made some free form links with my aluminum wire. I for a pendant I made a bezel from a bangle bracelet and a n aluminum gadget and added fused glass. I think I like this one. I am practicing my wire designs, for I have some gold filled wire I am eager to use.

My Birthday

Today is my birthday,I promised myself for my birthday I am going to go buy a bag of Oreo cookies yummy! smiles
My class always goes overboard to celebrate my Birthday Day. I have spoken about the Bead Soup so much that . My student took up a collection and made me a Bead and craft (Goolash) a huge box of beads and findings.

The box is full of beads I was so surprised and pleased.
I spent all day Sunday incorporating the box of beads into my stash to see if all the beads will play nicely together. HEE
I made a polymer clay bracelet last week. The long copper looking beads are really clay that I mixed real gold leaf into. I just love copper it is so rich and warm looking

I had some sweet beads left they were just laying there together I thought well don’t you think they could be balloons. So I created a lovely little broach with polymer clay beads I re-purposed a dangle earring it resembled a balloon if you turned it up-side-own. I left the wire to look like strings. Finding Time To Play

OMG :>) this BSBP is going to be an awesome creative journey, with 363 participating artist. I am so excited I have already started getting my Soup together. My daughter got me started in making jewelry about 2 years ago. I have always dabbled in making all kinds of stuff, from crazy quilts to handbags. I just love beading. I like to put beads on my quilts, my dresses and blouses, and my jeans. My daughter says”Mama’s favorite color is sparkle”:>)

I, like Lori never have seen a bead that I didn't love. I like to make something from nothing, I like to re-purpose items I don't have a favorite color. I am a watercolorist as well. I teach the seniors at our local senior center.
In my last blog I said I don’t do food well. Well that is the truth, but sometimes it is necessary. I got an urge last week. The temperature has been well over 100 degrees for 35 days straight so I thought I would try to save energy by doing all my (fixings) in one felled swoop. I started with my cooking my husband’s sausage in the oven. I took the skins off and broiled them. Then I thought well while the oven is still hot I will make his favorite meat pie (Bierox), a family tradition, then I thought well while the oven is still hot I will make a Chicken Alfredo and on and on :>) When I make casseroles’ I make really big ones, I divide them up into dinner size for my husband and I. That saves me kitchen time. And gives me more time to play with my creations whether it is painting or making jewelry

I have been collection my Bead Soup and I am impressed I hope my partner will be too whom, ever they may be. I will send a long a sneak peek. Later
I made two bracelets and a copper broach this week.
One bracelet is bead design
The other is a artsy copper cuff
And a broach is copper foil over a copper hand sculpted wire frame. With copper fringe under a re-purposed pewter and rhinestone broach I took out the pearl that was in the center and replaced it with a 4 carat peach colored zirconium

Lovely it is.

Oh for a Retreat

I was reading Erin’s blog where she spoke about going on retreats. How much it refreshes you and fills you with the desire to grow in your creativity. You do not have to go to an expensive place and spend tons of money. Get a friend or two together go to a quite place and encourage one another by bring along some new to share. Erin’sblog put me in mind of the retreat I and one of my students put together in 2009. Eight students and I went to Steamboat Springs Colorado for a week to paint. One of the students had access to a 3 story Condominium, with a spa and everything you can think of a huge kitchen and wonderful fireplace.
Since I was the leader for the painting part of the retreat, I took art supplies in all media.

I wrote the activity plan. Since we all work in a different media, I started with how and when to use our sketch book. I had exercises in drawing then, went into other media, as in pastels, watercolor, and charcoal. We painted beside the river one day.

We went on camera safari.

We hiked up to the waterfalls,

and we searched all the art galleries in town.

Each of us was responsible for a dinner. Everyone out did themselves with their appointed dinner. I made soup and salad I don’t do food :>) well. Also one student did a tutorial on how to build mobiles. This is what we ordered from an artist in Arizona, for the host gift, a doctor friend who lives in Houston, who graciously gave us the use of his Condominium for our retreat. Another taught tatting,(which I never could get my tongue untangled from around my eyetooth) to learn and another was determined to teach me to knit socks. :>) In the evening we did sing-alongs and danced. I was totally refreshed and filled with joy when I returned home.
On other occasions another friend and I use to go to their lake home and paint for a week at a time. We were earnest about becoming good watercolorist. Well maybe. We did a lot of 5 minute sketches and color studies. We practiced our technique. We would go on camera safaris’ and eat fast food. We laughed a lot. I always felt so refreshed when I got home.
I very often have friends over to paint on my patio.

My Very Wide Field of Intrest

I haven’t gone out much this week, but I have spent several days posting new items on my Etsy Shops, Etsy. Do take a peek .Links on the side bar. It is just too hot to go out, but I did go with a friend last week to her Physical Therapy appointment in far Fort Worth and then we drove over to see a mutual friend who lives in the area, for a time of giggles. Later we went to the Flying Fish for lunch, yummy.
In the stash that I bought from Ebay, there were 24 little watches. I have been decorating the backs and using them as pendants.

I am still experimenting with ceramics. I did some intaglio designs on little 1 1/2 squares. The designs were nice, but true to form I ruined them with the glaze .
I noticed in the papers this week that there is an exhibit of

John Singer Sergeant at the Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth. It will be there until October 9th. I hope to go see the exhibit. I had a portrait artist, Greg Cartmell, come to my shop for a week long seminar, whose father studied under John Singer Sergeant. I have always admired his work. WHAT IF , THIS OR THAT ?

If you knew me well you would know that I am forever asking myself ”What if” What if I did this or that. Or what if I tried this that. What if I used this color or that color and so on. One day as I was pealing one dozen boiled eggs I ask myself what would happen if I glued these shells to a surface and used it as texture. My idea was to use oil paint. I used different blues and a variety of yellows to make the variety of greens. I am thinking what if I use a dark glaze over the whole surface to make the painting look like it was really old. I am still pondering the idea. At any rate I have to wait for the painting to dry

Experimenting With Ceramic Beads

I have been experimenting with ceramic beads this week. My kiln is very old I really. It is a hand-me-down, from a friend who started china painting in the late 50’s. When she passed on to her reward, her kiln came to me. It has not one scintilla of controls on it so I have to fly by the “seat of my pants” so I fired one bead for one and a half house. All of the decals were fired off “nada”. So I fire the next ones one hour and 15 minutes. Some of the decals survived. So, I had saved the best to last. I fired those fifty minutes, just right. Like “Little Red Riding Hood” I am going to use one of the beads with some of the beads I received from Jennifer Pride.

As it turns out I used some of the square lampwork with enclosed rose beads that came in the five pounds of lampwork beads that I got from Ebay.

I reading Lori Anderson’s blog Pretty Things this week as I always do. She mentioned that we could feature people we admire in our blog in a way to gain followers. I thought that was a really good idea. Well, this week one of my students donated books and magazines as she is cleaning out her stash. While going through, I came upon a book by one of my favorite poets, Helen Steiner Rice. The book poem's title God Bless America. In it I found a poem "Independence Day". I was inspired to be the best that I could be. Here it is:

GOD BLESS AMERICA and keep her strong and free,
Safe from “all our enemies” wherever they may be.
For enemies are forces that often dwell within,
Things that seem so harmless become a major sin,
Little acts of selfishness grow into lust and greed
And make the love of power our idol and creed…
For all our wealth and progress are as
Worthless as can be
Without the faith that made us great
And kept our nation free,
And while bit’s hard to understand the
Complexities of war,

Crafty Summer Activites

I have been a busy little girl this week. Being closed in because of the heat I get antsy. smiles’ I was at a garage sale sometime ago and found a rather pretty watch. Cheap $.25 I put a new battery in it and low and behold it works. I have made a pledge to me not to buy anything from China, That makes it hard to buy jewelry findings. I go to resale shops that way the money I spend stays in the USA. I was at the local Goodwill, where I get discarded jewelry I found a necklace of beautiful glass beads and a gold chain. Every third Wednesday is half price day so I get the jewelry very reasonable. To make a long story short I married the two.

Since I love to make jewelry some of my students bring me their old cast off pieces. One brought me a broach. It is a gold feather. I had bought a bracelet in the craft section of Michael’s sometime age. I decided to decorate the craft bracelet with the broach. I laced the broach on the bracelet with brass wire. I then glued on a rather large rhinestone. I am pleased with the results.

My sister –in –love passed away in September. The girls are now faced with dividing up her treasures. Many years ago I had painted her a watercolor of girls and a mother in a field. Since I had already painted the older sister another one and the younger had already ask for a watercolor. That left the middle child without, since she had never ask for a painting I never gave her one. So the older sister ask me to do one for the middle child. I was happy to do one special for her.

Well I made my frst order on Ebay last week as I mentioned before. It came there was 5 pounds of beads and 24 watches. And I am soooo excited. It was chucked full of lampwork beads of all colors. I spent 2 days sorting them out into like colors. I cannot wait to PLAY.

Summer Time and the Living is Easy

I am having a real good time this summer, although Texas is living up to it’s reputation, (Summer Heat) So I have been staying in.
We were at the Retina Clinic last Wednesday. Ed can see 50% better he was 20/100 now he is 20/50. While I was waiting I was looking at Birds and Blooms magazine. In it I saw how to give birds a treat of fruit. It’s called a bird. You take a slakes coat hanger, take off the paper roll snip off the hooks. Bend the hanger up in a curve. Slice oranges or other fruit and slip it on the hanger. Make wedges to separate the slices or use berries. Tie a red ribbon around the “neck” of the bird and hang it on a branch in the tree. Watch for Baltimore Orioles’ we sometimes have them here in Texas.

I made my first time ever order on Etsy last week. I ordered lampwork beads from
Liz Martin. I was looking for some white lampwork beads with pink roses on them to go with beads that Jennifer Pride had sent to me in Feb. The beads are beautiful. I am just learning how to order online (watch me I may go berserk) I took one of the beads which was red and white and made a copper and red bracelet. I have very little red in my stash so I had to dig. I had made the clay copper look like beads earlier in the year. I used copper wire, copper chain and clay beads and one lampwork and a little heart. Do you remember the earring of about 20 years ago big loops of color? I had a red one from that time, so I used a red earring loop as my toggle. I am pleased.

Then I had some plastic bead packages so I put copper foil around the edges and some stuff in the middle, pored the resin in, they worked. I have a lot to learn, but I had fun experimenting.

I went to the library yesterday and picked up a book that I had on hold for me. I had ordered it in April but just now am getting the book. ‘Atlas Shrugged’ by Ayn Rand It is 1169 pp long so I will have a good long summer read. And in Texas you need a long read as it is too hot to venture out.

Growing and Growing

I was reading Lori Anderson's blog PrettyThings the other day, as I always do. She mentioned that we should look at some of our earlier jewelry designs, and then compare them to what we are doing now. I took that advice to heart. I will show how I have grown in this last year.

My daughter has helped me, by teaching me to do wire wrap rather than rings for connections. I learned from blog-hopping (thanks) and by inspiration.
Here is what I have been doing lately.

I have been a Florence Nightingale to my husband for what a life time since he had his first cataract surgery. His first surgery was on the 4th of April. Complications set in, an eye infections, and then black hole in the perfect eye, and on and on. We see the Retina DR. again tomorrow. If you pray, please do. Be Blessed to be a blessing

JUST FOR THE FUN OF IT

Wasn’t the Fairy Tale/Spring Blog-Hop fun? There was lots of candy for the eyes. I thought of something that you may want to try if you haven’t already. I went to each of the participants’ blog and copied their creation to my pictures then I put each one in a folder and ask the computer to do a slid show. I really enjoyed seeing each quickly and over and over. TRY IT

Have you ever made black beans and rice? I never had until our new neighbors, CUBAN) moved in last year. And on one occasion they brought us some Cuban food which consisted of black beans and rice accompanied with some kind of a soft taco. Anyway I decided to try it on my own. I soaked the black beans.

When the first water came out really really black, my husband laughingly said I wonder if you could watercolor with that. Well we all know that watercolor is only stained water :>) I felt the challenge. So I took a bit of Arches watercolor paper and taped it to a watercolor board. I tore pieces of masking tape to mask off where I would want a flower. I then did a watercolor wash, and allowed it to dry. I made another pass to indicate distant hills, and drew in branches and leaves and indicated pine trees. I did some bruising, and allowed it to dry again. I then made one last pass to darken the leaves and trees.

Then ol’e smarty me! I thought it would be cool to paint the flowers with beet juice, and the centers with mustard. I also mixed the beet juice and mustard together to get orange too. After all this experimenting I did a little pen and ink and -- voila! :>)

Fairy Tale Bead Swap Blog- Hop

The reveal is here. I have to tell you this one has been a real challenge. Not because I didn’t have enough, but because I had soooo much. Stephanie Haussler of pixybug designs was my partner. She was so generous!

I tried many times to use all of the beads in one design but each one was a disappointment. She sent several color waves. She sent blue, pink, yellow amber, clear crystals, black, and green. Alas I gave up and made several different design. All were lampwork yummy. She sent a little lampwork gnome created by her husband Chris and two darling little frogs.

The main design is the three strand silver chain with the green lampwork beads. Add to that a green lampwork bead bracelet with dangles and a silver kitten in a circle.

Then there is the darling little frogs sitting on green river glass beads with dangles.

I used one of the gorgeous crystals in the pearl and black bracelet silver findings

This on I call circus because of the colors in the lampwork. Alternate beads are carnelian.

I decided to continue with the dangles. Shown here is the amber lampwork and crystals bracelet

Stephanie sent a large golden yellow quarts bead. I put it with copper as it had copper color veins in it. I used some of my free form copper links in the chain.

Spring Storms

What do you blog about when you have nothing to say? I can tell you we have had some kind of storms but nothing like what they have had in Alabama and Missouri. My heart goes out to those who are devastated at the loss of lives and homes. I went to my enter closet for about an hour tonight. Every year my husband wishes for a (frade hole)

Edit We had 9 tornados on Tuesday night. Yea. we need a FRAD HOLE smiles

Our son flies corporate jets, he had to fly around the massive storm tonight and I can tell you I was so relived to here he was on the ground safe and sound. He was at the terminal for about 4 hours waiting out the storms before he go home, he reported that there was no flooding, no roof damage. We called our daughter to hear if she and her husband were safe as they were in line of the same storm. I went to bed feeling very blessed that all was well.

Overload

Well I am thru the 11th annual Art show and Sale. The awards reception was just lovely. There were about 60 persons in attendance. Each student got to choose an art book in their personal favorite media or a bound sketch book for their prize. There were award ribbons and certificates of appreciation. The students gifted me with gorgeous vase of flowers.

One student made me the most creative flower pot that said LOOKATTHECOLORS all around the top. In it was a miniature white rose.

I looked out the other day and the Post Man was delivering a big package to my mail box.
Whoopie-De-Dee Whow Whow the package was from Stephanie Haussler at pixiebug .
On the outside were seven count them 7 stamps with Gregory Peck (swoon) Most of you probably don’t know who that was. Well I can tell you was hunk back in the day. Smiles

Inside were 17 little packages of the most gorgeous beads. I’m saying lots of yummy lampwork beads, piles and piles of beads of all kind, crystals, ceramic, semi precious stones ,on top was the most precious one and half inch smiling gnome, made by Chris, her husband.

Inside was a Fairy Tale with a list of all the beads and what they represented.

Oh, Oh and there were the most darling little frogs

I have spent the week trying to make a satisfying design. The first one was such a disaster that I did not even bother to photograph it. The second one did not work so I disassembled it so onward we must go.

One of my students, Nova Wells, is a widely published gemology. She understands my fascination with jewelry design; she brought several finished stones on Friday to show me. I wanted to buy all of them but, she didn’t want to sale all of them as she is working toward a show in the fall. But I did purchase two. One is called Amazonite, the other is Rhodenite. She has polished them to a high gloss shine they are just lovely and I can’t wait to make some interesting design.

The Renaissance Bead Fair is this week-end, but my daughter and I decided not to go as we both have enough. I have many pieces already finished that I have not even posted as yet, and I have yet so much design work to do with my copper anyway.

THE HANGING

The Hanging
Boy oh boy what a time we had this Friday passed. All the works were due on the 6th. The judging on the 7th completing and tweaking and photographing on the 9th before the show opened. Wheew.
I painted 9 signs last week before my class on Friday.

I had lots of help registering all the works and hanging the show. Sometimes too much as all the media were to be hung together. And all the Abstracts were to be hung on one wall. Well it did not happen, so when the judge came she had us taking the categories off the wall and putting them on a table so she could see them all together, then the media’s were hung randomly so did-do. Then we had to re-hang the show. The stapler did not work so the labels were taped to the wall. Well that won’t work so I had to go on Monday and staple every label so they would stay for the duration of the show. However the Show is beautiful. I am so proud of the students. We had 27 artist and 75 entries in 7 categories.

Wedding Dress'/Art Show/ and Gathering of Friends

I have been busy busy getting our Eleventh Art Show and Sale rounded-up. I have lots of help with the paper work this year, matter of fact, I had lots of help last year. We have 7 categories, with beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels of experience. We will hang the show on Friday the 6th of May; The Judge will judge the works on Saturday the 7th. Then the show will open on the 9th of May: Since we all of the students bring one painting each month to hang in the great hall, the director will allow us to hang our annual judged show for the entire month of May. That is a change. We use to take down the show at the end of the reception on Friday. I have about 50 students on the roll but only about thirty are very faithful to come every Friday. So it should be a great show. This year just for interest and fun, I adding a new category; Abstractions; I am not using three levels of expertise in this category.

I had three friends over to paint with me on our patio on Wednesday. One of the ladies brought chicken and potatoes and desert, another brought fresh strawberries. They took me seriously when I said “I don’t do food!” smiles. We had lots of giggles.

I am looking for floral lampwork to finish a design that I have on my heart, using the beads that Jennifer Pride sent me. They have to be really special because the beads I want to use are Swarovski pearls and crystals in the palest pink with large glass beads in a lovely spring green.
Yesterday I spent the day photographing my next posting on Etsy. Just for now I have only done the watercolors. I will get the jewelry next week hopefully. I have done a lot of jewelry lately I just haven’t photographed it. Don’t be alarmed. I usually do thing in spurts. But, when I get started there is no stopping me. Smiles
Did you watch the Royal Wedding? The wedding was just lovely and exciting. But it was way too early for me so, I had my husband record it for me. I have watched all of it by now. The dress was wonderful but I know of another that was just luscious. Emanda’s It was one-half of a value from white called blush, in heavy satin. The heavy lace on the front of the bodice is in the shape of a heart. The gauntlets are of delicate lace with her grandmothers tatting in the shape of a heart on top of the hand. Her mother made it. Covered it with pray and fear and trembling. That was just Twenty years ago the lovely couple celebrated their twenty Anniversary just last week, and they still act like newlyweds. Amazingly.

Hipped Hop Happy Easter

Well that BLOG HOP of artist donating 7000 bracelets for HOPE was exciting. With 112 artists participating I got over loaded with eye candy, it took me three days to visit them all. Now we have HIPPEDY HOP. I had a friend over the other day for a sleep over. She thought it would be fun to dye eggs and decorate them. I think she had visions of grandeur, inspired by by Martha Stewart , I thought it would be fun as well. Some years ago my daughter ( Artemisiea’sStudio ) did a demonstration of Pysanky Ukrainian Easter Eggs for my art club. So I whooped out my jaunting tool. I was going to show my friend the process of dying eggs with resist. NOT &^&&%$^&* OMG what a mess we made. Here are our sad result. But we had lots of laughs and giggles.

Here is what they were suppose to look like (Yah right) These are a photo of the eggs my daughter did as she did demonstrations on the ancient technique of Pysanky Ukrainian Easter Eggs , I think they are just awesome.

Some years ago I painted these ceramic eggs. I have a nice egg collection but I have them packed away. I am too lazy to get it out.
HAPPY EASTER

This week I made two pieces of jewelry. I used beads that Jennifer Pride,( My bead swap partner), sent me. The necklace is pink Swarovski crystal and purple fire polished Czech glass beads. I separated the bead bars with one inch of silver chain.

To create the bracelet the bracelet I used fused glass that I used copper designs in the glass they are lovely. I used pewter separator beads that are equipped to use a dangle. I used deep purple Swarovski beads on each side of the pewter. I put little pink glass hearts as the dangles .On the back of the fused glass I glued pewter disk beads hammered flat. I used silver findings

GENES AND JEANS 7000 BRACELETS

Genes and Jeans 7000 Bracelets Project We were ask to send a message of hope to the parents of these little tykes. My message was as follows: Miracles** some skeptics say, “Oh, the miracles, I can’t accept miracles.” One may drop a brown seed in a black soil and up comes a green shoot. You let grow and by and by you pull up its root and you find it red. You cut the red root and find it had a white heart. Can any one tell how this comes about.—how brown cast into black results in green and then in red and white? Yet you eat your radish without troubling your mind over miracles. Men are not distressed by miracles in the dining room; they reserve them all for religion ! ------- Bryon. Expect a Miracle I copied this poem on white parchment and stitched it to denim, then glued it to matt board. I then packed the bracelet and poem in a clear bag.

One bracelet was made of sculpty clay, mixed to look like lapis. I got my inspiration to make lapis from LoriAnderson. I mixed gold leaf in into the navy blue clay for the effect of lapis. I used pewter beads with provision for a dangle bead. I used silver findings The second bracelet was made with pewter flowerets with blue crystals in the center. I used silver findings. I am #41 and my daughter is #45. Emanda Johnson She had wanted to particiate, but, it didn't happen.

HOLY COW

It is TAX week. We were suppose to get our taxes figured on Saturday. NOT. I have always had a system of collecting all the paper work in a designated spot. And never worried about it. We just pick up the folder and cruised on down to the Tax Man. Well on Saturday I went to the spot and No No No No the paperwork wasn’t there! We started a major search. My husband was ready to ship me off th the Alzheimer’s Unit I really did not know where to look as it wasn’t where I always kept it. But I can tell you this house got a major clean sweep! I had little piles of papers, greeting cards, birth announcements and the like here and there, well no more. But I did finally find the tax paper work. I had laid a stack of Beading Magazines sideways on top of the books in the book shelf and somehow the tax folder was under them. Now, good news. I finished my bracelets for the 7000 Bracelets for The Genes for Jeans project for children with Rare Diseases. In the Post Box on Friday I received such a surprise. There was a package From my swap partner. Jennifer Pride. And In that was 9 little bags ---

there was a package And in those little packages were lovely beads. It was like Jenn wanted to cook up a yummy bead soup. There was a Tablespoon of this one and a tablespoon of that one and a teaspoon of one and a pinch of that one. Oh my goodness what fun I had opening them My brain is spinning. I can think of at least two designs I would love to make. Then there was what I sent to her. Red milk glass beads like cherries and a red cloisonne egg pendant with a red glass closure. Be Blessed

Amazing Technology-The Eye

Well Here I am at the http://NetherlyEyeclinic in Fort Worth Texasmy husband. We are, at long last going to do the THING. Have the cataracts removed on the right eye today there will be another surgery on the left eye in three weeks. I think it is just amazing the leaps in technology that has been made in the last few years. He will be able to see without glasses. That is amazing.

I can only report a failure for this week’s creativity. I rescued some ceramic green ware beads from the senior center. I thought I could fire them and glaze them and use them. NOT. I don’t know what I don’t know. For some odd reason when I put the final (clear) glaze on when fired they turned to a yuck gray. So I can only view this experience as a learning lesson. BUY YOUR BEADS it took me three days to get this mess. I was going to photograph them but they went and hid in my BLACK HOLE >
In my painting class we had a grand time I introduced a month’s time of experimenting with ABSTRACTION. Our annual Art Show and Sale will be in May so we wanted to do something different. After. I gave the students a handout then showed them examples on my computer of abstraction they went wild making pictures. It was a success. http://GalleryDirect.com
Last week I taught composition by using templates. I did it on a full sheet of 300lb watercolor paper. I finished it at home. I framed it and failed to photograph it before it was framed. I can tell you it was a success as well. I have it hanging in the Senior Center for a month so it will be a while before it will be photographed. I sometimes get ahead of myself (often) >

March Madness

I have been working on my Watercolor Wet and Juicy book all week. I have also gotten pretty good at fighting with the computer. So I have about gotten the word documents edited to the place I think I want it. I have the photos inserted. Now I have to get into illustrating of the process. That part shouldn’t take too long. I am encouraged. I have been on the computer so much that my sweet husband thinks it’s an extension to my arms. So to alleviate that thoughtI baked him a lemon cake. You have heard I am sure that the way to a man’s heart is thru his tummy. >

My sister-in-love ask my sweet husband to cut her some wood slices so she could make something to put in the little sale at her retirement home. He cut her several in different sizes. While he was at it, he cut me some in smaller sizes. You will probably see them in my Fall Seed Collection when I add acorns and Texas mountain laurel seeds

I took time out and made one necklace. I used the little giraffe that is in my Etsy as the focal. And an old gold plate chain necklace that I purchased at the local GOODWILL every third Wednesday everything in the store is half price so I got it for a steal. I added bling bling to some of the links. My daughter says “Mamas favorite color is sparkle”

Spring is Here

Since spring is here I thought it was time to do some Spring Sprucing up. Like I said last week I purchased some weather proof fabric for the cushions on our patio set. I am so pleased that they turned out so well. When I finished I got an idea to take the little bit of fabric left and use it for the ribbon and bow to make a floral wreath to hang by the backdoor. I went to a friend’s garage sale and would believe she had most of the colors of old silk flowers that were in the fabric I purchase them and ran home to create this wreath but I needed more blue so made a mix of permanent blue ink and died some white flowers

We enjoy setting out there since the weather is so nice. It is suppose to get to 84 today. My husband has made a friend in one of the squirrels. He is very spoiled He will only eat the best pecans. I stopped at a pecan tree that we use to raid in the fall some 45 years ago and picked up some pecans. I know they were several years old probably. He won’t eat them he smells them and drops them on the ground and proceeds to beg for more.

I have a great painting class. This week we reviewed color by looking over some of my color studies. I encourage them to make notebooks of color studys.Next week I will demonstrate compotation by using templates.
I have gotten back to my book on Watercolor. I have been fighting with our new computer. I think I need to uninstall the Open Office program and re-install it again . It jumps around and you never where it is going to end up @##$%^&**&%$@ smiles

This has Been The Week That Was

I keep hearing in my brain my inner self saying be not afraid. I cannot grasp the depth of devastation, the human toll in Japan and in the islands and across the seas the past 3 days and the fear of more to come. My heart whispers keep still be not afraid, but my heart aches for the millions affected.
It is hard to be creative when there is so much going on.

I have found a new to me shop that carries end of market fabrics. I bought enough outdoor fabric to cover my patio cushions. The fabric is butter yellow with blue flowers and green foliage. I have finished one cover and lack 3 but I am not going to rush as I have to clean the set up first.

My daughter, Artemisa Studio.com sent me a Etsy link for vintage buttons at http://AddVintage.etsy.com. To my great surprise many of them or very similar are in my stash. I have had them for “Many a year “ .as my grandmother would say.
Earlier in the week I did manage to create a necklace, and 2 bracelets. I used some of the base metal flowers that I purchased at the last bead market that my daughter and I went to and some green and blue crystals. I filled the backs of the flowers with silver clay to mount the crystal on.

Inspired by Fellow Artist

I was so impressed with Lori Anderson"s design for the blog-hop times to put in a lorianderson.blogspot.comthat I made myself a button bracelet. I am button-a-holic. I have always had a fascination with buttons. I remember exploring my grandmother’s Treasure Trunk when I was a child and marveling over her button jar. My daughter ask me once when she was just a child, ”Mama when you die can I have your buttons”>While recovering from double knee replacement surgery last year I had not a fiber of creativity for three or four weeks. My first effort in creativity was to make a button necklace. All the buttons I used were mother of pearl.

Ithought I would get back copper as it has been a month since I posted. So I brought out the number
8 gage wire and bent them into bangle type bracelet. I then added fussed glass.

My stash is healthy and bulging and my pockets are flat so my daughter and I did not go to the current Bead Market in Fort Worth Texas. That is huge. Now we are talking 16 miles away!

Strolling Thru Candy Land

Man Oh Man what a ride this week-end had been There was a blog-hop as some of you may know. 210 participating jewelry artist ,showing their inspired works, using beads and findings from partners from around the globe. It took me four days to stroll thru them all. I made a big iron skillet full of my great grandmothers ginger bread recipe, and my friend Sue’s lemon tea and settled in for the adventure in candy land. To tell you the truth I would have to take breaks from overload. Like going to a museum, I can only take in so much at a time.
All that to the side I did work at my studio table this week. I made a copper broach that I am very excited about.

I used Libby’s at Libby Leuchtman wire flower as my inspiration. She was Lori Anderson featured artist on Cup of Bead Soup this month).
Here are the steps that the whole process took: I started with the copper wire and made a flower shape.

Then I got the inspiration to add delicate wire a wire center. I could not decide what to use as my center.

Finally I settled on fused dichotic glass in green and copper colors. It was only then that I decided to add copper foil.

Oh my, did it shine. It was then I put India ink on the surface it to give the broach patina.

I used a copper penny as a foundation for whole piece. I added a pin back and wala

In my painting class I taught how to stretch watercolor paper. Then while it was still wet I started a watercolor of roses. I will give a demo of finishing the piece on Friday.

The Great Bead Soup Reveal

Oh I am so happy for the GREAT BEAD SOUP REVIEW day to finally be here.

My camera is worn out from my taking so many photos of my piece. But I just am not a photographer. My coach (my daughter, Emanda Johnson at Artemisia Studio) tries to help me, but alas this is the best I can do for now. My Bead Soup came lovingly from #72 Norma Turvey, Moonlit Fantaseas the focal is Juliana Cannon.My project is designed to be a 3-in-one necklace. Also my design did not call for a closure so I mounted a lab created ruby on it and used it as a pendant on the long necklace. My design can be worn separately or all together.
I strung the longest part of the necklace 3 times because I kept dropping it and chasing the beads all over the place -- “Oh Crap!” our hostess’ best quote. I could not see to string all those teeny-tiny seed beads, So I decided to fuse a lot of the them and make dangles, fobs, pendants or whatever.
I used the designer lampwork glass beads as centers on bars to connect the chain. The secondary necklace is 36 inches.
The primary necklace is 20 inches long, 12 mm jade beads with Julianne Cameron’s cross and focal beads separated, lampwork glass spacer beads and gold color metal beads and 4 mm glass beads.

Waiting for thr Great Reveal

What can I say I have been eager to see what everyone has created. So I have been cooling my heels by experimenting with copper for my new shop.

Still biding my time you know “Time is too precious to kill” gospel according to Sandy> I had already made a turquoise stone from polymer clay for a sterling silver mounting that I found at a garage sale , sometime ago so on Sunday afternoon I put together a creation . There was a problem, the mounting had three bugle type thingies on the back. What to Do with that. ? I decided to drop chain thru them and attach little balls on them, Here is the results:

Still waiting for the revel: So I went into some polymer beads that I purchased at http://Brazosa Collections when my daughter worked there. I had a problem trying to decide whether to use silver ball beads or black I finally elected to use the black with silver separators. I am pleased with the results.

I am so eager to promote copper for jewelery that I decided to create a what I call African Safari, a bracelet starting with a heavy copper wire and slipped wooden and copper beads and copper elephant charms. One a focal, and three smaller ones. I secured the ends with the larger charm.

Still waiting and now I am so eager I am pacing>So I decided to do a little demonstration. I was a local craft store the other day an found a pendant of sorts and thought I can do that, Then I read Lori Anderson a saw her latest creation, where she used copper (Yea) with her focal. That brought to mind what I saw in the craft store. I decided to use my number 16 copper wire and a sharpie pen for the basic form. I put a short wire under the wire that I am winding around the pen. When I have sufficient wire around the pen .I slip the whole winding off careful not to lose the ends of the under wire. Then I drew that wire up close and formed a circle. Now I mashed the whole thing flat. When I had it just liked I wanted it I glued on a piece of fussed glass. I have not decided just how I will use this creation but it has kept my hands and mind busy

I had an awesome painting class on Friday. I think I had 30- 35. Everyone does something different and with a different media. I demonstrated yellow roses with oil paint first, then later I did a demo of yellow roses with watercolor. The watercolor was on a get well greeting card for a student who is having hip surgery tomorrow. So it wasn’t too involved. Anyway see ya soon on the GREAT REVEAL

Improving Photography

No one could be more surprised than me when I went to my new Etsy Shop and found that I had made the Treasury for the second time. I only had been on the web 2 days when WaLa! (voila!) Also my daughter designed me a lovely banner for the new shop. Take a hop on over and take a peek!

Lesley Payne picked up one of my copper necklaces. The one with the dichrotic fused glass pendant. I had just opened the shop on Thursday and made the Treasury on Friday. “Slap my face and call me chicken” (smiles).

I answered http://jenniferprid.com/ offer of flat-bottomed marbles. She sweetly sent me a dozen, I felt so blessed. Thanks Jennifer. I couldn’t wait to play with them. I made a bracelet right away. My sweet husband made a jig so I could form wire for the backing. I am so pleased with the results.

This is what my table looks like while I play. I don’t call it work, though it is, because I love creating beautiful things, be it jewelry or watercolor. I had an awesome class on Friday. Everyone was so glad to be out from under the snow.

She sent me a web site to go to with instructions on how to make a Photo Light Box http://www.thadalende.com/ . Here are the steps I took .The web site calls for a cardboard box, but I happened to have a glorified apple crate that I had. I kept it, of course, because I just knew I would find a good use for it.

I still don’t have the results I am desiring. It may be that I don’t know how to use my new camera. I plan to go to a class this Thursday for help.

TALKING BACK

I have a feeling you all have had the experience of trying at least to talk back to a computer. That is what I have been doing the better part of this week. I was trying to set up a new Etsy Shop just to list my copper jewelry Well they won’t put two accounts on the same email. Well on and on. At last I made in late Monday evening, much too tired to post anything as yet but my new Etsy Shop will be http://coppercandyjules.etsy.com.
I have been doing some experiments with my little 60 year old hand-me-down kiln . I just fly by the seat of my pants. First I was trying to expand on something I noticed. Copper does not melt. So I made charms of glass with copper wire designs inside. A success!

Another experiment was slumping glass. I know that porcelain melts at a much higher temperature than glass. I wanted to slump a piece of glass to decorate a bracelet. So I built a base in the bottom of a small porcelain cup and a piece of resist paper and laid the glass on the top and let it slump. A success!

Daughter Saturday

I had a lovely Saturday! My daughter came down to spend the day with me. She wasn’t in the mood to go very much further on the road. I suggested going into Fort Worth to the Brazos Collections for bead shopping. Turns out she had already spent her inheritance the day before on beads. So we went to http://Michael’s. I haven’t been there in years. But they have a nice bead collection, all be it all from China. Seems like, you just can’t buy anything made in the good old USA anymore. Anyway I found some copper chain, which I had thought I would be unable to find. That pleased me as making chain is a pain in the patootie. Smiles. My daughter made me a beautiful pair of earrings. She used some of my gold filled wire and two from a string of beads that I gifted her with. I love them

I have been working on my Bead Soup piece. My daughter taught me another way to make loops or rings whatever they are called. They are way harder than I have been doing but so much more beautiful and professional looking. She also taught me how to make the rosier bead chain. Awesome. Also she taught me how to make a list of Blogs I follow for my front page. Well it’s not there yet as I have found a ton of new blogs in the Bead Soup adventure. FUN
I thought I would show you my work table. I was at Office Depot the other day and found 5 of these cardboard divided display boxes. I have used them to organize my supply closet. I have another bookcase type cardboard display that just fits in my supply closet that I have been using for 30 years. I was very pleased with me. The table is from Southern Methodist University, one of the original library tables my husband got for pennies when he worked there. Smiles

I recieved my Bead Soup the other day My pardner is Norma Truvey of moonlightfantseas . She does the most incredible bead work. She sent me some of the most lovely lampwork beads Jullian Cannon and a vile of bead soup which had the smalest beads I have ever seen and glass work novelities. I do have a chalenge which I love.I never give up on a challenge smiles

I got a electronic piano keyboard at Christmas. I am determined to work as hard on my piano as I did on watercolor. So far I am doing very well I can play several pieces with both hands not well but passable. I have my Bead Soup offering ready to mail. I also tucked a surprise packet in one of my wire wrapped marbles in and one of my clay works and some cloisonné in just to make her happy.

I received my packet from my partner. Norma Truvey of http://moonlitfantaseas.blogspot.com I was so surprised as I thought the beads were not going out until the 28th. The beads are beautiful I can tell you I have a challenge. The colors are yummy.

My best friend of 45 years came and spent a week with me We had lots of laughs, but I did not get too much accomplished.

This week is my sister-in-law’s birthday and she loves cats. I found a packet of kitten charms. So I made her a necklace and earrings. All in all it has been a wonderful week

Exploring New Ideas

We went to Graham, Texas, as I told you last week. While there my friend took me to some antique shops to help me find marbles as I have lost mine. Smiles. I wanted to work out an idea that I had. I thought I could wire wrap the marbles. I used copper wire to wrap some of the marbles and silver wire to wrap the others. I have been creating copper jewelry and using marbles as my beads. I could not find copper chain so my husband taught me how to make chain. The process is labor intensive but, well when you have to make do or do without, you do as my grandmother taught me, you punt and learn something new. Take a look at the results.

The bead Soup Party hosted by http:// Lori Anderson had its partner reveal this week. I was wondering what I should send. So I got out the dichotic glass and did some glass fussing. I was happy with some of the pieces and a little disappointed with some of the pieces, But, that is how I learn.

Copper May Be The New Gold

Hey Hey I have been busy designing copper jewelry this week. I am very pleased with the results. I have been back to the Ace Hardware three times for the #8 copper wire. I am so impressed with it. I also think if we take another look at copper as a purchasing public, copper will become a shining star in the costume jewelry world. What with gold approaching $2.000 per oz., and silver rising to an astounding $30. Per oz. Copper, looks really good to me. I will have to rest from working with #8 gage wire for a while because I am suffering an attack of arthritis in my hand. Heck fire.

Anyway I have also been making Fimo clay. I used my cut crystal for impressions. Well you have to use crystal for something! Right ? Lori Anderson put me to thinking about Lapis. I put gold leaf in the clay to reflect the look of real lapis

I mixed blue and white to marble the turquoise look. I am pleased with the results.

Planning a spring bracelet

This week-end we took a two hour trip to Graham to visit friends. The drive was delightful. The weather was beautiful. Just before the first winter snow and ice storm.

I had a most interesting New Years Eve. And I cannot tell you how long it has been since my husband and I have been out on New Year’s Eve. I mean “Out in the dark” smiles. We are normally in bed long before the ball drops. However this year our son’s girl friend from St. Petersburg Russia is here for the holidays. They had a little party and invited my husband and to drop by. There was a couple there who were long time friends of Ira’s (pronounced Eee-ra) smiles. They are in the ministry of helping orphans. Ira works for a ministry who teaches Life Skills to children who have aged out of the orphanage. She is sweet as peas. Anyway while at the party Ira and her friend brought out some of the things they plan to use to raise funds to help the orphans. htpp://comeandsew.org I said I would tell you about them. These little boots are darling and they are all handmade. They are felting and ribbon trim.

They have several items that are handmade used to raise funds for the orphans. Another itwm they have are zipper handbags. My son brought me one when he went to Russia to visit Ira. It comes in a gift bag all unzipped I “exclaimed”Oh he has gone to a garage sale and bought me some zippers!” No he said “When you meet Christ your life is a mess”, but as Christ begins to change you (and you are zipping the purse us a s you say this) You become a useful, (and I was going to say “Vessel”) when one of my students said (An Ol’d Bag) smiles

I have been experimenting with #8 and #16 gage copper wire this week. The number 8 is beautiful when shaped into a bracelet. I have a lot to learn but I am willing, because I have gone ballistic over copper. My husband is a Master electrician so he just doesn’t get it.> to him it is just wire but to me it is extraordinary. I made a pair of earrings for my sister-in-love. I used red glass beads and silver chain to create dangle earrings. I put the red glass bead in a pieced earring and attached the chains to them. I was pleased. I had given her a several strand bugle bead necklace with large dangle earring, because she said she liked them, but when she put them on she was over whelmed.

“Use what you have, make it do, or do without”

My grandmother’s name was Annie; you will hear me quote her often. This week is a perfect example of her tutelage:
“Use what you have, wear it out, make it do, or do without”

I love following Lori Anderson. PrettyThings is one her blogs. Not too long ago she mentioned that she had made faux Lapis. I had never thought to make faux Lapis. and told her so that I was so impressed with the thought. I tried to make Lapis from Sculpey Clay. Sculpy does not have a good navy blue so I tried to mix navy blue; I failed to make Lapis and produced what I called faux turquoise. It was not too bad, just not Lapis.

I failed to make Lapis, but I was not daunted. I went to JoAnn’s Fabrics and Crafts and purchased Fimo. I discovered Fimo is not the same as Sculpey. I can put Sculpey in the microwave for 15 seconds and it is soft enough for these arthritics hands to knead, but not Fimo. Fimo became hard and crumbly. So I broke it in to large chunks and continued to bake in a regular oven for a few minutes, then I used Sculpey’s Studio Gloss glaze finish the chunks. Whilst they were still tacky I applied gold leaf flakes. I drilled holes in and made what I call chunk Lapis. I was pleased with the results. And so I created a couple of very different necklaces and earring sets. So I have learned my lesson:

I bought a whole nest of bracelets and I used the copper ones to create bracelets with the chunky Lapis and beads. My husband drilled them to have larger holes.

I went back to JoAnn’s and purchased more Fimo. This time I put the package in my bra to warm-up Just I use to do with my kneading eraser. My desire to make handmade Lapis sculptures of little animal designs. I wanted decorate them to make original pendants. Take a peek:

My sweet husband tries to do things to make me happy, bless his heart. Last week he went to move a computer floor power strip up from the floor to the side of the desk, so I could reach it. He turned the computer off correctly and moved the switch, but when he turned the computer back on it politely crashed. So we call our computer geek of a nephew to fix it, he came running as he always does. The computer could not be fixed.

We had to buy another computer but the new computer does not have the programs that I am familiar with. I could not get it to make me a new business card for my new Etsy Shop. I mentioned this to my sweet daughter. And behold she made me one and e-mailed it to me. How blessed I am.
On to another front: Last week I told you about celebrating Chap’s 97th birthday. We took photos as you remember. Well, Marie -- one of the really talented students -- took the photo and enlarged it and affixed to a canvas painting apron. I was so pleased and surprised. They brought me a lovely pot of Poinsettias as well. Well, MERRY CHRISTMAS to me

I Feel Like Erin Brockovich

I Feel Erin Brockovich in the movie of the same name, after she had collected all 650 signatures from the residence in a small town to fight a huge corporation. (And this blog I have tried14 times blogger kept grabbing it away before I was finished). I have just finished posting 22 pieces in my Etsy Shop. It has taken me 5 days. That is about all I have accomplished this week. Well I did get the tinny Christmas tree up. I put the little Etsy-bitty-T-Tinny tree on my Bright Red and Green Crazy Quilt to cover a small desk. Then I put out my bling-bling decorated gift boxes as decoration.

I put wreaths up on the front and back doors. I do the back door because everybody comes through our backdoor, as we live on a corner.

At last I put out the porcelain Nativity. I always use the blanket that I brought both my children home from the hospital in for Christmas. I use it as snow to set the Naivety on. That is every Christmas since 1958: Whoa! And, it has been one year since I had a double knee replacement, and now I could climb a tree if I had to, my legs are so strong. Yea.

Plip plop--fizz-fizz (or something like that) Oh what a joy it is to be found for the Treasury on Etsy. On my FIRST DAY in Etsy! How lucky is that?

Just Idle and Babbling

I have just participated in my first color challenge, and my first blog-hop. How exzellerating is that a word > I am a slow learner but I think I may try it again. I saw lots of candy for the eye. And I got a overload of inspiration. Thanks Erin and Emanda for including me.
Here is another of my creations I just could not decide

I have a little man in my painting class, who inspires me so much. He will have his 97th birthday next Friday the 10th of December. He goes to the Trinity Art Guild every Tuesday and paints and critiques others work, although it cost him $30 for a taxi, which is about 3 miles. I pick him up every Friday for my painting class. One of other men students helps me take him home as I cannot lift his wheelchair. He still enters art competitions and he still wins. One year at our annual Art Show we gave him the Energizer Bunny Award. He just keeps on kicking. Is that amazing or what.

He tells me that it too much for us to come get him and take him to class. I tell him as long as he is up and breathing we want him painting.> The class wants to do something special for his birthday, so we are going to give him a card shower.

I am going to Office Depot in the morning, as their sale starts tomorrow, to print a photo of a painting I did for my brother-in-love. He wants to use it for his Christmas card. Since I will be there anyway I offered to have Chap’ (he is, my afore mentioned student) Christmas card printed I just adore him. He is writing his third book. One he wrote was on Art History. He donated his entire Art History book collection to my daughter. She then donated them to North Central Texas College in his name, because she did not have enough room for his collection. She was teaching there at that time.
I have an inflamed bursa in my right shoulder. I am having to keep my elbow close to my side, to try to get the shoulder to heal without surgery. (It is not as much as it should be to advance in years) That makes it difficult to create jewelry, or paint .but t one thing I won’t have to do the ironing.>

Wonderful Thanksgiving on to Advent

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I made everyone’s favorite dish. It took me three days. And, this someone who declared when she turned 60 years of age, that she was old enough to say “I don’t do food.” I honestly don’t think about it. I would rather paint, make jewelry or quilt. I set the table with my best china and crystal, bought the wine. I prepared for 6, but the weather prevented our daughter from coming and our nephew was off hunting. That left us and our son. What made the day so wonderful was attitude. I was determined to a great day, and just know everyone were where they suppose to be. After dinner we spoke to our son’s girlfriend in St.Petersburg, Russia by way of Skype, I did the dishes as it was my best china. Then we had a movie on our big 5ftX8ft screen. Then I declared it was “Pie Time” We had pie then we watched another movie and had another “Pie Time”

I took Erin’s @ TreasuresFound.blogspot.com , color challenge that my daughter shared with me when we went to the bead marker. Also I wanted to use the beads she had shared with me. ‘They were stone crosses’. I simply could not get into the crossed. But I tried. While trying I spied heavy copper wire on my work table, then I was off and running. I will show you the process.

Sometimes design is a process off elimination. My daughter would say Mom “Less is More” I wrapped the focal stone with copper foil and the red bead with copper foil. I then went to JoAnn’s for a copper chain and found a treasure of copper beads. I am very pleased with the results,

You know that in this economy copper is the new gold!

While my daughter was here for the bead market she set me up on Etsy. But I cannot find the place to add items. I have put my profile in twice but it does not show up. So I need more tutoring.
